Grant money at Woodcrest School funds poetry reading night back
Thank you very much for the grant we received.  Our entire student body participated in the poetry writing unit during our second semester.  We then hosted an old-fashioned coffee house poetry reading titled “Poetic Justice for All”.  The students in grades Kindergarten through fifth were able to recite their poetry.  Over 200 students, parents, family members and friends attended this delightful event.  It was a wonderful and fun learning experience!  Thank you again for this unique opportunity for our students!

Grant money at Tahoka Middle School funds writing field trip
Thank you for the grant!  The grant allowed us to go on a field trip to let our students have some first hand experiences to write about.  We visited the site of the last Indian battle in Lubbock County, toured the Breedlove Dehydration Plant, and visited the Silent Wings Museum.  When we returned, the students were given opportunities in the following days to write about their experiences.

Some of the suggested writings included:

—    a news article spotlighting Breedlove Dehydration Plant
—    a personified account of a potato who was sent to the Plant
—    an account of the Indian battle from an Indian child, Indian warrior, or a buffalo hunter
—    an account of a glider pilot landing behind enemy lines, a passenger in the glider, or an eye witness account of the glider landing.

Because of the field trip, our students were able to really put themselves into their writing and the results were very good.

Grant money at Willamette Christian School funds “Poetry Slam”
back
With great excitement, my colleague and I set out to create our school’s first “Poetry Slam”.  We prepared the students by having them memorize their original poem, practiced dramatic presentation, watched the National Poetry Slam winners online, then held our event.

The night far exceeded our expectations.  We had a panel of judges, and the students progressed through three rounds, in three different categories.  We had an excellent time, full of laughter and very serious moments.  To each winner of the categories, a gift card to a local bookstore was given as a prize.  We were also able to put out a publication with every student in the school being published.  This event truly made poetry come alive in our kids.  Thanks for helping us make the event happen!!!

Grant money at Emmanuel St. Michael School funds visit from local author
back
Thank you for the grant!  We were able to invite Indiana author, Mr. Jerry Hay, to visit our school.  Mr. Hay writes non-fiction and encouraged the students to write in their journals.  His point was that this enables you to record your thoughts and experiences.  These can then become topics for writing.  He also encouraged them to write for themselves, from the heart.  Thank you again for helping us to present this program to our students!

Grant money at Lincoln Jr-Sr High School funds poetry material
Thank you for awarding us a language arts grant.  The funds were used for a rhyming dictionary to supplement our poem/lyric writing projects, poetry anthologies to add to our advanced placement language program, and poetry pattern books for use in all grades for encouragement to students to write.  Our students at Lincoln are always excited to receive their “A Celebration of Young Poets” anthologies and sign the author pages.  Your company provides an excellent addition to their college applications.  Thank you for your efforts on behalf of our students and many others!

Grant money at Onsted High School funds local history magazine
I am grateful to have received a language arts grant.  My sophomore students published a local history magazine entitled “Gateway to Progress.  It covers the local history of Cambridge township from past to present.  The students chose topics of interest to research, read local history books and newspapers taking notes and generating questions, and interviewed local authorities connected to their topics.  Through the project, teens and community elders have found common ground for communicating.  The magazine has been hailed as enlightening reading across the age groups.  Thank you again!

Grant money at Clarksville Elementary School funds poetry material
back
Thank you for the grant!  Our school has greatly prospered through this worthwhile project. The hosting of a school wide poetry contest, adding to our professional library, and purchasing more poetry books for the library, Creative Communication has changed the lives of Clarksville Elementary School’s young writers.

Grant money at Florida Youth Challenge Academy funds poetry magazine
Here at the academy, the cadets of Class 12 put together and published a poetry magazine titled POA.  The cadets are so excited to see their work in print and to hear compliments from the staff and their fellow students.  In many cases, students told me that the poems they submitted were the first poems they had ever written.  They were all really happy to be able to write, revise, and publish their work.  Thank you so much for awarding this grant to these deserving students!

Grant money at United Hebrew Institute funds writing workshop
Our grant was used to bring a series of writing workshops to the institute.  Wilkes University professor Dr. Thomas Hamill and his students, helped to develop ideas for short stories and then reviewed those stories offering suggestions and guidance to assist as work was revised.  We are grateful to Creative Communication for funding this wonderful experience.  The students took not only strategies to help them in future writing endeavors, but also knowledge that important work must be done to revise and polish one’s written efforts.

Grant money at Miller City-New Cleveland School funds writing research
back
Thank you for the grant for our Language Arts program!  About four months of our program is engaged in doing a research science project. This project involves the science, math, computer and English departments at our school.  In the past, I have developed papers and guidelines for this project.  This year, a set of books called “The New Book of Popular Science” came to my attention.  This set of books goes through the steps on the process of doing a research science project.  With the grant, we were able to purchase two sets for our school that will be so beneficial to our program.  By working with the students step by step in doing these research projects, the students will have a sound foundation for research papers.  This foundation will serve them the rest of their lives.  Thank you so much for your interest in the education of our students!”

Thank you for awarding us a grant!  We held our first annual “BIS Poetry Slam” and it was a great success.  Approximately 40 students shared their original work and several faculty members participated as well.  The BIS Step Team performed a routine using Maya Angelou’s “Rise” in their cadence.

We received numerous compliments and already have heard students planning to be involved next year.  It was a great deal of fun and we heard wonderful poetry from students who don’t always excel in other areas.  Again, thanks for the grant; it was the springboard for our first event of this kind on our campus.
