Grant money at Amanda Arnold Elementary School supports poetry program

Amanda Arnold Elementary was very pleased to receive our $250 grant to assist us in our advancement of the teaching of poetry. Because of this generous gift, we were able to:

• enlarge our professional collection with books of teaching ideas and lesson plans
• add a number of audiotapes of poets reading/singing their own poetry
• purchase blank tapes for our students to record poetry written by famous and not-so-famous poets, including themselves!

Some of the results directly related to the receipt of this grant and the increased focus on poetry in our building have included:

• higher circulation in the library poetry section
• more teaching of poetry concepts in the classrooms
• greater production of written poetry, choral readings, and recorded verse
• more submissions of written poetry to various publications

In sum, this grant helped us reach every student with the joys of poetry. While we could have done it on our own, this gift allowed us to greatly enhance our resources so that our projects were received with greater student enthusiasm. We like what Creative communication is doing to nourish school-wide initiatives and hope you will be able to continue that support!
