Grant money at Boylan Catholic High School funds poetry contest
Every spring, Boylan Catholic High School holds a Fine Arts Festival which showcases the talents and accomplishments of our students. The gym is transformed into a gallery for the display of student art works, industrial technology exhibits and clothing/needlework projects. Although the English Department has always considered itself part of the fine arts program at Boylan, we have not participated in the festival---until this year. With the $250 Creative Communication's grant, the English Department organized and ran a Fine Arts Festival Poetry Contest. Included with the poetry competition, we invited the poet Richard Vargas to read some of his works and to visit with the students. The student poets presented their works and Mr. Vargas chose the winners. We hope to make this competition an annual event.
