Grant money at Christ the King School purchases poetry books

Each spring our school has a Declamation Contest for all students in Grades 5-8. Each student must memorize a poem, story, or speech of 1-3 minutes in length. Most students choose poetry. Because of the number of students involved in this (about 100) we can serve them best by having a wide selection of poetry books. We have wanted to increase the number of books of poetry by African-American poets as these are popular in our school. The $250 grant enabled us to purchase 20 new books, with a large number of those by African-Americans. These new books were chosen by the students as soon as they went on display. In fact, as soon as they are returned, they are snatched up by another pupil. We are all looking forward to the new material in this year's Declamation Contest in late May. Thank you for supporting us.
