Grant money at Hallsboro Middle School funds writing contest
The Creative Communication grant monies awarded to Hallsboro Middle School were divided into two portions. $115 was used to purchase books for writing research and to support the writing program. The second portion was designated as rewards for the creative writing contest. These monetary prizes will be given to the contest winners during our annual Awards Day. During this presentation the entire student body will be further encouraged that good writing does make a difference. The Creative Writing Contest was timed to coincide with a tutorial writing program. These two efforts had the common goal of increasing student writing scores on the North Carolina End of Grade writing test given March 2. The results of that test were received today and show a 44% increase over last year. The enthusiasm of the students who participated in the contest is matched by the enthusiasm of the Hallsboro Middle School staff with the improvement of the End of Grade writing scores. Please accept our thanks for sharing with Hallsboro Middle School and making the progress of our students possible.
