Grant Money Helped Fund African American Read-In

A national event, the African American Read-In, took place at Onondaga Hill Middle School in Syracuse, NY thanks in part to the Language Art Grant that was awarded to their school. The day began with assemblies where students, faculty, and administration had prepared readings of prose and poetry written by African Americans. As a culminating activity, 7th and 8th graders participated in an assembly featuring Ted Grace, an African American performance artist and educator. The day ended with a reception for Read-in participants and Ted Grace. It was a very successful and rewarding day.
