money at Underwood Elementary School funds poetry corner
I would like to thank
Creative Communication for the language arts grant we received.
We have used it to organize a poetry corner in our elementary library,
which will benefit preschool through fifth grade students. We
purchased a variety of books to make poetry more accessible to students
and created a corner with beanbags for students to use while enjoying
poetry reading. We also acquired instructional materials for
teachers to check out and use when teaching poetry units in their
classrooms.
Next school year, each month we will highlight a “Poet of the
Month”. We’re working on developing decorations to help draw
students’ attention to the corner as well. This will be an
ongoing project that we hope to improve from year to year. We are
truly appreciative of the opportunity this grant gave us to expand our
poetry curriculum and to peak student interest in reading and writing
poetry.
