Thank you for your interest in our writing contest.

After 20 years of working with students we have taken a new direction and are just focusing on students in 9th grade or lower in the United States.  We encourage you in your writing, but we are not taking entries for grades 10-12, or entries from Canada, for our contests.

Entry Deadline: August 8, 2024

  • Students must be in school (public, private or home school) in the United States.
  • Students can enter on their own or have a parent or teacher submit their entry.
  • All entries must be in English and be the original work of the individual student.
  • Open to students in grades K-9.
  • You can write on any appropriate subject (no pro-violence, pro drugs, etc.)
  • Poems cannot be over 21 lines of text (blank lines between stanzas are not counted).
  • Do not double-space your entry.
  • Be sure to use proper capitalization.
  • If you attend a detention center or adolescent treatment facility, you can just put your last initial for your last name. In all other cases, please put your complete first and last name.
  • You may enter one poem for each contest (Spring, Summer and Fall).
